Volunteer FAQ

Below you will find answers to Frequently Asked Questions about volunteering at ESDC.

Are there volunteer positions available?

Yes! Go to the Volunteer page to apply.

Volunteer jobs are available in return for free Ballroom Passes or credit towards ESDC 2016. No free workshop passes, accommodation or competitions will be given in return for volunteering this year.

I’ve applied to be a volunteer, but I have not had a response yet. Should I buy my passes? Should I book my hotel room?

Volunteer positions will be available in return for free Ballroom Passes or credit towards ESDC 2016. No free workshop passes, accommodation or competitions will be given in return for volunteering this year.

This means, if you are hoping for a volunteer position, you can hold off on purchasing your Ballroom Pass until you hear about volunteering, OR you can purchase one now and be refunded if you are successful in getting a volunteer position.

However, please do not wait to buy your Workshop Pass, register for competitions, or book your hotel room, because these might sell out and are not part of any volunteering reward anyway.

How much work do I have to do?

That’s up to you! You can volunteer just a few hours of your time, or you can work full-time over the weekend.

What do I get in return?

Since all volunteers have different skills, and work different hours before or on the weekend, we negotiate the volunteer deals on a case-by-case basis. Here are some possible deals:

4 hours in return for a one-day Ballroom Pass (value £35)
8 hours in return for two one-day Ballroom Passes (value £70)
12 hours in return for a Full Event Ballroom Pass (value £95)

You can also volunteer this year, in return for credit to use at ESDC 2016. Some volunteers become paid staff instead.
